On the Fundamentals of Geometry

This booklet presents a new axiom system for (projective) geometry; and - of course - the proof that this system is equivalent with the existing ones is included.

However, it is not merely the umpteenth way of developing geometry. It claims to be phenomenological, that is: the axioms can be 'derived' from our experience. In a time when geometry is almost completely reduced to calculus, as far as it has not fully disappeared, it is of utmost importance to keep the field alive. May this little book contribute to that.

Lou de Boer (*1947) studied mathematics and music in Amsterdam. From 1971 to 1986 he taught maths at a VWO-school (gymnasium) in the same city and from 1986 to 1993 he was an ICT-consultant at the Dutch telecom company in Den Haag. At present he lives in Rotterdam and works as an independent researcher in the fields of philosophy, mathematics and physics.
